Hybrid Engine
The heart of Escape hybrid powertrain is the 2.5L Atkinson-cycle I-4 hybrid engine. The gasoline engine includes an unconventional “5-stroke” cycle designed specifically to operate at peak efficiency at all times. However, the gasoline engine is only part of each hybrid powertrain that includes an Electronically Controlled Continuously Variable PowerSplit Transmission (eCVT), electric traction motor, lithium-ion battery and Regenerative Braking System.
This available engine produces 192 total system horsepower between the engine and battery. Plus, it uses regenerative braking to capture energy normally lost through braking to help charge the battery — helping to potentially prolong your overall range.
